Robert Eastaugh, 85, of Newton Highlands, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Metrowest Medical Center in Natick. He was the husband of Vera Jean Eastaugh who passed in 1997.

He was a WWII Veteran who courageously served his country in North Africa and Italy. Robert was an avid fisherman who worked for over 37 years for the Town of Brookline.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas Eastaugh and his wife Susan and their daughters, Laura and Jennifer, all of Holliston., and Steven Eastaugh and his son Robert of Washington, D.C.

Robert volunteered to serve in North Africa and was one of the first American soldiers to serve in World War II. He served in North Africa under Patton and was later wounded and received a purple heart.

A German had a clear shot at him with whatRobert called a machine pistol, but the kick made the German miss and hit his arm.

Later he would serve in Italy under Bradley and finish his time after the war in Italy. He finished as a Sargent and after the War ended he worked as a MP assisting the Italian Police authorities.He returned back the United States in 1946 and soon after his return he would take a job with the Town of Brookline Park Department.

Vera Jean BROWN was born on 6 November 1931 in Morrisville, Vermont. Her U.S. Social Security Number was 008-20-1184 in 1997. She died on 15 May 1997 in Newton Highlands. She and Robert Richard EASTAUGH had the following children:
