John ALSTON (1866- )

John ALSTON , son of John ALSTON (1828?- ) and Eleanor DENT (1830?-1894), was born in 1866 in Preston, Lancashire, England. He was baptised on 25 November 1866 in St John Church, Preston. In 1871 he was resident in 87 Villiers St, Preston, In 1881 he was a Cotton Weaver. In 1881 he was resident in 62 Bold St, Preston, He married Sarah Jane DICKINSON in 1890 in Emmanuel Parish Church, Preston. ¹ In 1891 he was a Cotton Weaver. In 1891 he was resident in 39 Milton St, Preston, He married Margaret Ellen TAYLOR in 1893 in Emmanuel Parish Church. ² In 1901 he was resident in Preston, 48 Barlow St. In 1901 he was a Cotton Weaver. He emigrated from Liverpool, England to Boston, USA on 7 April 1910. In 1910 he was resident in Fall River, Massachusetts, USA, In 1910 he was a Labourer: Gas Company. In 1920 he was resident in Fall River, In 1920 he was a Labourer: Cotton Mill. In 1930 he was resident in Fall River,

May possibly have married Margaret Ellen Taylor in Oct-Nov-Dec 1893 Emmanuel Parish Church Preston, after his first wife died in Jan that year.

The 1930 US census gives his "age at first marriage" as 27, which matches the marriage to Margaret which I believe to be his second marriage.

John arrived in Boston on the IVERNIA on 7-Apr-1910 with his daughter "Nellie" (which would be Eleanor)

His wife, Margaret, arrived with Florrie, Edith, Marguerite (as "Maggie") and John on 2-Jun-1910.

Sarah Jane DICKINSON was born in 1868 in Preston. ³ In 1871 she was resident in 5 Corry St, Preston, In 1881 she was resident in 11 Ladywell St, Preston, In 1881 she was a Tenter, Cotton. In 1891 she was resident in 39 Milton St, In 1891 she was a Cotton Weaver. She died on 11 January 1893 in 39 Milton St. ⁴ She was buried on 16 January 1893 in Preston Cemetery.

Margaret Ellen TAYLOR was born in 1871 (approx.) in Radcliffe, Lancashire, England. In 1901 she was resident in Preston, 48 Barlow St. In 1901 she was a Cotton Weaver. On 7 April 1910 she was resident in Preston, 173 Emmanuel Ter. She emigrated from Liverpool to Boston on 2 June 1910.
